Terms of use
Read the site, reuse the text with credit, and do not mistake it for engineering advice. The detail is below.
Who we are
The Open Source Safety Consortium is not yet a legal entity. This website, opensourcesafe.com, is operated on its behalf by Polymath Robotics, Inc. ("we", "us"). By using the site you agree to these terms. They cover the website only. Membership of the consortium, and the documents, code, and hardware designs it publishes, are governed by their own agreements and licences.
Reusing what is here
Unless marked otherwise, the text of this site is licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0. Credit the Open Source Safety Consortium and link to the page you took it from.
That licence does not cover the consortium's name and logo; members' names, logos, and descriptions; or photographs, video, and other media credited to someone else. Materials the consortium publishes carry the licences set out in the charter: Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 for documents, Apache 2.0 for code, and CERN-OHL-P for hardware. Where a file states its own licence, that licence applies.
Names and logos
The name "Open Source Safety Consortium", "OSSC", and the consortium logo identify the consortium. You may use them to refer to it accurately, but not in a way that suggests it endorses, certifies, or is affiliated with you or with any product or service.
Member names, logos, and descriptions belong to the members, appear with their permission, and are written in their own words. A listing is not an endorsement by the consortium of a member's products, nor by any member of anything else on this site.
Not engineering advice
This site describes work in progress on functional safety for robotics. Nothing on it is engineering, safety, legal, or regulatory advice. Nothing on it is a certification, an assessment, or an approval, or a claim that any software, hardware, or process meets IEC 61508, ISO 13849, ISO 10218, ISO 3691-4, or any other standard. The consortium does not certify products. Documents marked as drafts, including the charter, will change.
If you use anything from this site in a system that can harm people, you are responsible for the hazard analysis, qualification, safety case, and independent assessment that system requires, carried out by people qualified to do them.
Using the site
Do not attack or disrupt the site, try to get around its security, or use it to break the law. Automated access, including search crawlers and AI tools, is welcome at a rate that does not degrade the site for other visitors. To report a security problem, see security.txt.
Messages you send
Email you send us is not confidential unless we agree otherwise in writing, so please do not send confidential or commercially sensitive information, such as pricing, costs, or business plans. If you send suggestions about the site or the consortium's work, we may use them without any obligation to you.
Other websites
Links to members' and other websites are provided for convenience. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content or their privacy practices.
No warranty
THE SITE AND EVERYTHING ON IT ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF ACCURACY, COMPLETENESS, MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT PROMISE THAT THE SITE WILL BE AVAILABLE, ERROR-FREE, OR SECURE.
Limits on liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, NEITHER WE, THE CONSORTIUM, NOR ITS MEMBERS WILL BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF OR RELIANCE ON THE SITE. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM RELATING TO THE SITE IS LIMITED TO US$100.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that the law does not allow to be excluded or limited, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, and disputes about them go to the state or federal courts located in California. If you are a consumer in the EU, the UK, or anywhere else whose law gives you protections that a contract cannot remove, you keep those protections and may also bring proceedings in your local courts.
Changes and the rest
We may update these terms; changes are posted here with a new effective date and apply from then on. If any part of these terms cannot be enforced, the rest still applies. Not enforcing a term is not a waiver of it. These terms and the privacy policy are the whole agreement between you and us about the website.
